Red Bull have formally appealed against Daniel Ricciardo’s disqualification from Sunday’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo had initally thrilled his home crowd at Melbourne’s Albert Park as, on his debut for the Milton Keynes-based team, he secured second behind Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.

However, the joy did not last long as the 24-year-old was soon stripped of his podium finish due to a technical fuel infringement with his car.

Red Bull were subsequently given 96 hours to table an appeal,  and they have now done so.

A hearing will now go before the FIA’s Court of Appeal at a date yet to be determined.
