US share trading sees Visa lifted 6% in wake of results

(Open): US shares opened slightly lower although there were some big-name gainers.

Payments firm Visa shares jump 6% after a results pleased investors.

Amazon shares rose 17% after it revealed it made a profit – beating expectations and Starbucks was up 3% after it, too, reported profits after Thursday’s close of trade.

The Dow Jones was down 6.18 at 17,725.74 points, the S&P 500 lost 0.95 points to 2,101.2.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq though was up 11.16 at 5,157.57.

A giant US health insurer deal saw shares in Anthem fall 3%.

It is buying rival Cigna Corp in a deal worth $54.2bn. Cigna shares were also lower, down 3.2%.
