Joe Joyce could become Team GB’s second fighter to reach the final as he takes on Ivan Dychko from Kazakhstan in the men’s Super-Heavyweight semi-final.
The south Londoner has already guaranteed a gong at Rio 2016 but victory against the number two seed will see him follow the best of British boxing’s footsteps.
Nicola Adams is the first of the team to book her place in the tournament final as she goes for Olympic gold, while reigning super-heavyweight star Anthony Joshua is likely to be ringside at Riocentra Pavilion 6.
All eyes will be on Joyce as he looks to join Joshua and Audley Harrison to complete a hat-trick of giant golds at the ripe old age of 30, before he turns professional.
His power has seen him come through to the final four but faces a serious challenge in the shape of Dychko, who is not only the tournament’s second seed but has previous Olympic experience.
The 26-year-old went all the way to the semi-finals back in 2012 and pushed eventual winner Joshua all the way before losing narrowly 13-11 – and like Joyce he hasn’t lost a round yet.
The other semi-final sees France’s Tony Yoka take on Filip Hrgovic of Croatia.
